Wow...couldn't find anything in either of my newspaper archives about a Camp Tannenbaum????? I am stumped...even searching the net came up empty....but I did find this link... http://www.jerseyhistory.org/sponsors.php

Maybe someone there could assist, mainly for the location of this said camp.

Wish I could have been of more help :-\
Good Luck,
Annmarie
PS: Nice Finds by the way! :)

Probably Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, NJ

They made watch fobs and political buttons and such in the early 20th century.

Pretty cool!

The United States Government adopted the eagle "Great Seal" design in 1782 (the version you have is a 1904 - current version). The U.S. Army adopted the symbol and starting using it in 1902.

Either way - your second watch fob sports the Great Seal Seal of the United States and once held a leather strap... It's a nice piece.

Camp Tannenbaum?? Cripes...

Tannenbaum Historic Park - staging ground for the British during the Battle of Guilford Courthouse

Possibly a fob souvenir from an encampment reenactment at the Tannaenbaum Historic Park...

"This beautiful Greensboro Parks & Recreation site is located on a seven acre portion of the of Joseph Hoskins’ 150 acre farmstead. Hoskins left the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania only to have his North Carolina farm host British troops under Cornwallis’ command as they formed their first battle lines during the March 15, 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse."

"The Reenactment of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse
This annual re-enactment of the March 15, 1781 battle is accompanied by a lecture series, speeches, period demonstrations, and exhibits. Although the British won the battle under Cornwallis, it was a turning point leading to their final defeat at Yorktown, which ended the Revolutionary War. The re-enactment has been held since 1981."

But - I think that fob is older than 1981. Just a guess...

Yes Monty, you are of course correct, Tannenbaum is German for Christmas tree. This thing is bugging me because I swear I've heard of Camp Tannenbaum... but alas there's no google search that indicates anything about it. There is a Camp Christmas Tree but I doubt its related to that.

went back to the archives....trying to key in different words....I come up with alot of TANNENBAUM's...but nothing referring to a camp....however, I recall seeing something similiar to what Montana Jim posted, about the battle...I thought there may be a connection....but dismissed it :-\....

Did some research on Whitehead & Hoag Co...found lots of article's on them...they even had an office in Toronto, Canada (as per the Winniepeg Newspaper). Nothing though in regards to what you found. I'll post these articles soon on my webshots site under WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO....but don't look now...they are there yet :P

They also had an office in Atlanta, Georgia...or a person that represented the company in Georgia. Peter Reese (think I got his name correct) ... he was a Rotary Club member there in Atlanta.

I guess I'll leave this one be for a bit and try to come back to it later....when I get fustrated trying to find something...I get...well, very agitated!!! :P...don't like coming up empty handed!!! (in ref to Camp Tannenbaum)...

Oh, was trying to find some references on whom the camp may have been named after..as I found alot of TANNENBAUM as I mentioned above....but no reference to a camp being named after anyone...that's why I thought, maybe that the NJ Historical Society (link I posted earlier) may be of some help to you. I'm sure, if this camp was in New Jersey, they would know, atleast I hope they would....

Anyways, good luck...I'll try my luck again soon...:)
