Flying with detector?

I am planning a trip in the near future and want to take my detector along. Is there anything special the airlines require I do when I pack it in my suitcase? I assume it has to go in the packed luggage? Anybody know of good areas to detect around Key Largo, FL? Thanks

I went to Mexico at the end of October. I took my detector apart and carried on the box and my coils in a duffle bag,the shafts I packed into a checked bag. I read to leave batteries in the box in case they want to turn it on. I didnt have any trouble at all going down or coming back through 3 different airports,though many admired,none attempted to stop me. I wouldnt advise packing a detector into a checked bag,the airlines wont insure electronics at all,have fun on your trip and be sure and post your finds,heres mine if you are interested http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,55392.0.html ....Shoot
