Looks like this button is seen better days and coulda seen better soil, you musta got this up near where you live (from you're inbox to me a few days ago) some areas of that county got the worse soil i seen and will tear up buttons to the point they crumble in your hand, while other parts of the county is got good soil. I can barely make this one out looks like a 19th century civilian dress button or decorative button. Kewl find, your getting closer and closer to those CS Buttons

Mark do you have the Official Military Atlas of the Civil War? lot of those maps show camp sites and battlefields around the county your in, I do have some maps of some confederate camps in your area that honestly everyone and there grandma has dug out free roaming, I have gotten into some good huts to this day though in some of those camps but when i get a chance in a couple days I will scan some maps and PM you. :occasion14: The key to relic hunting successfully is not to count on luck but to count on research (I just made up a quote whoa) good luck my friend.

Haha nice quote and that would be great if you find the time I know I need to do some research I have some of the most beautiful trench that I have ever seen I'm my back yard though I can't seem to find anything near them 0.0

Oh man those trenches have yield me some good finds, only problem is most of the artifacts you gotta dig into the trench which can be frustrating and hard but a lot and lot of shot bullets and slave shovels can be found in those trenches and also bayonets, I recovered 3 slave shovels from the 19th century in a trench line over by belvedere plantation some time back, when you scan those trenches with your detector do it very slow like a turtle and wait and hear for the faintest signal and i mean faint or you can do some test holes in the trench and see if you can pick up any signals, those trenches are full of surprises and also any dirt that was laid out next to an old road bed too which there are plenty of those up your way. :blackbeard:

Wouldn't there be some huts near them ?

could possibly be... It would have taken a week or two to completely finish those trenches, but normally hut sites are found in camps where the soldiers would have camped for more then a few weeks. If the camp was only occupied for a week or two they would just have setup tents and no huts. :occasion14: If you would like sometime in the future if you get frustrated and not finding anything back behind your property for free I will be more then glad to ride over there on a Sunday and look @ the lay out of those trenches/land and see possibly where you could find stuff by doing soil samples and eye balling low depression points in the ground and dig a few test holes in the trenches...
