Living on the west coat of Florida, we had some time ago to make plans to visit family on the other coast, mainly, Melbourne - and when did we make those plans? for this week! We arrived in the wee hours of the morning yesterday and just made it through before one of the major roads in Melbourne was closed due to flooding. I thought I was seeing water lapping at the road on both sides as we were trying to see the road to travel in the downpour.
We tried our best and went out many times to many different beaches in the area. About all we found was rain, rain, rain! When we used up all the changes of the dry clothes we had, we did the laundry and we started all over again. At times the rain was so heavy, we could barely see and it actually felt like sand on our faces and eyes - but we were determined to get in as many hunts as we could. The wind was blowing so that it ripped the hood right off miket's poncho!
One thing, the pennies we find on this coast come out of the water as bright as new! It is unbelievable since as soon as they are dug, they are billiant and all the other coins come out looking terribly aged.
So no gold from any sunken ships - altho' we surely tried - and no great finds. Found lots of pieces of iron such as bigcypress hunters post on his Treasure Beach finds. Yukonbob, miket and I will be back to our home stomping grounds soon to try our luck again. We did have fun got to see so many new beaches. We even were at one and were almost locked in since they announced they were closing it and we had better hurry in off the beach.
Sad to say - I did see some of the baby turtles washed up in a heap on Vero Beach - guess they couldn't make it through the storm. Also, lots and lots of beach erosion - some "ledges" were really hard to get up and down from and kept breaking away further in to the shores.
There's no place like home! At least we can get in out of the rain sooner.
East Coast of Florida is saturated. My area received somewhere between 14 to 18 inches. News folks can not seem to make up their minds on just how much we got, but we got more than we need. LOL
Some neighborhoods are flooded (mine was spared). Lots of downed tree limbs and some trees that fell over on my property. Wife thinks I am going to be cutting tree limbs on Saturday. She is right. Right after I get back from the MDing the beach. LOL....
We still are seeing some showers, but nothing too bad.
Glad Fae has left the neighborhood. Folks in north FL are dealing with her now.
Yeah I'am still here - Just have'nt been finding anything worth posting, but I think as soon as Fay goes away it will get back to normal in Florida - Cavedweller
Rain, Rain, Rain and high surf Excal still at Minelab and will be for quite a while according to their Tech (they have cut back to 2 to do repairs for all of US, Canada & South America)Mine has been there 2 weeks and there is still 180 ahead of me! Now you know why I believe in a backup- backup. Got my Garrett LS back very quickly less than 2 weeks back and forth & I have another excal
Now if it will just stop raining......
Alive and kicking in Jacksonville, but soaked! We never lost power for more than a couple of minutes which is nothing short of a miracle. There are trees down all over and 1 or 2 reported tornadoes touched down, but the only casualities weremdue to one drowning by a 21 year old girl who went for a swim in the middle of the storm and a couple of folks that got killed in traffic accidents.
Mike
PS: Still hopefully awaiting delivery of my Surf PI Pro...
I appreciate you folks sharing with me on the NW side my turn now as she is starting to tinkle and blow here. Suppose to be gone Monday am. But than again was suppose to out of Florida last wednesday. Hope you all find the gold it there somewhere
Lots and lots of rain and a bit of wind to go along with that. A tornado down the road and the streams are flooded and the creatures are on the loose. I guess i lost the outside light in the front yard but if that is all I have to complain about I'll gladly take it. Many other folks in the area/s were not as lucky.
Went to Jacksonville Beach today and spent the afternoon poking around and dodging the sunbathers, surfers and lots of other folks who were just happy to finally get out of the house. Hit on 16 good targets 3 newer dimes, 3 newer nickels with the rest being newer pennies. Did not find anything close to a being a piece of jewelry. Saw about 10 other folks with detectors but I have to say they were either too busy detecting or just unsociable. Nobody wanted to say or show anything they had found except to report they had not found any gold up to that time either. Oh, and a few crazy bothersome non-detecting folks as well were hanging out on the beach. I think they were probably there during the storm also or so they appeared. Not that I looked any better though. Most of the other detector folks were hitting the wet sand and in the wake of the waves. I like staying dry. I'm sure IF anything was there on the beach it was probably located and found today. But there is a lot more beach area that needs to be covered. There were lots of nice friendly non-detecting folks out on the beach as well. I wish I found more and better targets but I had a good time and some nice clam chowder after my hunting. I'll try another set of beaches next time. I think there's too many detector folks working that claim LOL. Thanks for thinking of all of us TN folks who shared a visit from Fay. For a tropical storm she sure did a number all throughout Florida. I hope she is kinder to the rest of the folks she visits on her way out of Florida. IF your in her path stock up and head for the high ground.
After about 5 days of solid rain, we are still here. I guess it has rained at least 8 inches in our area over the life of Fay and she isn't done yet. The ground here is very sandy and porous though and any rain usually soaks in very quickly. In all, the storm has been good for North Central Florida and is going to be good for Alabama and Georgia also since they are trying to recover from a severe drought. If everyone would just use common sense and behave during these storms, loss of life would be very low. Most deaths come from people making really bad decisions.
Thanks for asking about us. Hope your weekend is going well.
