That’s another great lithic.
I used to think about what type is it a lot more and of course I still do but I really like to see all the lithics.

Definitely agree Fat, probably about this time last year I started researching types, age ect... but I'm the same, just want to see or find them regardless of what they are.

To me age is critical...only to be able to understand what man was doing at the time they lived at a site. What challenges did they face compared to myself? What were they hunting? What was the climate like compared to now.

So many questions that can be better guessed at if you have a rough estimate at age.

That’s what gets me going.
Heck I found a bottle cap this evening that got me excited..

Possibly an older point like thonotosassa reworked into an archaic stemmed point.....????....

Far removed from their respective areas, but Wade or Buck Creek come to mind.

Tom has a good point, it’s the same type flint used for many Thonotosassa’s.....So then maybe you have a guy who makes Newnan’s do a salvage job ( upper tang corners are blown away by single classic oblique flakes, a trademark of many, not all Newnan’s...Check out all the little flaking goin on on Newnan Man’s point in the upper tang corners....good post, until a year ago I didn’t care a flip about who made what, now I semi care, and since I started knapping glass how it’s made is more important to me than who made em,..This is crazy but I’m on the lookout for points that might have been made by women..With artwork a woman will have a less bold approach to line and color, but when pushing a flake, well I don’t know, crazy I know, well it’s somethin to do, ain’t it...Lololol.

Looking at it, it does seem like a rescued top of a larger point then notched to become a nice stemmed point. Look how much material was removed in the next to the last pic. I think Tom got it right.

Thonotosassa2.jpgA lot of the raw chert from parts of Hillsborough has that color and similar colors. Cone Bros..

The edge of that pit, pretty much right along 301, in some places where there was an old railroad bed....was where Neal Lube took me digging for the first time. That whole area is like one square mile of site LOL

I believe so too

,
I understand when Cone brothers screened the dirt in that conveyor, points ended up in the screen, some fella told me he had permission to look at the end of the day, don’t know if that’s true, but that’s what happened at Tick island...Yeah, we never forget those collectors who helped us along the way
