I have been there several times and have met a few of the locals. At the turn of the century it was mined for the high quality flint that was used to make facepowder for women. Allot of the pits are not native american. There was actually R.R. tracks going in to the quarries to remove the stuff. It would be great to think that all of the debutage was made by primitive man but unfortunately the area has been dug many times before it was protected. There is a knap-in there laborday weekend which is well worth the trip. Don't get caught removing flint from the park-I heard it is a heafty fine.

man i never knew that, takes some of that feel away from that place, wondering why everything lays on top of ground instead of under it, i keep thinking thats all the prehistoric peoples did in 15,000 years.
