Found these two items in the same hole...the "trigger" looking piece was about 4" down in the hole, and the other "hammer" looking piece was around 6" deep. There are a couple of holes in the trigger piece and what appears to be a spring, or some wire wrapped around a small post with the other end in the small hole adjacent to that...the "hammer" piece is fairly heavy and has a hole just above the rounded end...it is pretty well rusted...This is the same cabin site where I had found the barrel to an 1851 Colt revolver a few months back....any gun experts out there?
Any and all help appreciated, and as always, thanks for stopping by a taking a look!

I agree trigger and a percusion cap style hammer. Nice finds, I hope you find the rest of the gun!

Since they came from the same hole, would they necessarily be from the same gun? How do you know if it was a rifle, or a pistol? Any guess as to the age?

is the trigger brass ???

It does not appear to be brass, but has considerably less corrosion on it than the hammer..seems to be of a fairly light metal...

After some looking, it appears to be more pieces to the colt revolver, it sure matches up well.....

Wow, Goldiver, you may be right! They do look an awful lot alike...if this is the case, these pieces (Hammer and Trigger) were found about 40-50 feet away from where the barrel was found!

The hammer is to a percussion revolver, the trigger is not. I have worked on quite a few percussion revolvers, but the only thing I have seen resembling the trigger is on an old kid's cap gun.

the second picture looks like the breakdown trigger for an old shotgun

The trigger has what looks like the remains of a round spring and I believe all the colt revolvers had flat springs. Someone jump in if I am wrong. Monty

I believe that the first 2 pix are of a latching device. This type of latch was used on old Ice boxes and some heavy cabinet doors.

Absolutely correct on the springs Monty.

Well, darn, after looking and looking, the hammer looks right , but the trigger doesn't seem right. The hole throuigh the middle for one seems too big for a colt revolver. And the spring throws me. It could be someone's amateur attempt to repair the old revolver, gave up and just tossed the whole thing. If you previously found a barrel in the same vicinity, I'd think that pretty much cinched that it is parts from a percussion revolver. Monty

The hole on the trigger piece is larger on one side than it is on the other...not sure why...

The trigger is nothing like one from a Colt revolver. A Colt, or Remington, trigger has just a small hole for the retaining screw to pass through and a small spur off the top rear to engage the half and full cock notches on the hammer. The whole thing is only about 3/16 of an inch thick and 1-1/4 inches long.
