Flat Marine Corp Button, Date? Solved: 1820-28

Trying to figure this one out. It looks like the button was misprinted so its hard to read the bottom part. The Robinson is clear.

It almost looks like UGH but I don't see that matching any of their dates

It is a US Marines officer's button, not Navy. Your button is shown as button number MC-2 in the Albert button-book. That book says the very first order for US Marine buttons with the logo on your button's front was dated August 3, 1821.

The 1-piece BRASS form of the US Marines button was used from the very-early 1820s through the 1830s. It was replaced by the first 2-piece US Marines button about 1840.

According to the McGuinn-&-Bazelon book on backmarks, your button's "Robinson & Co" backmark (note the lack of an S at the end of Robinson) dates from about 1820 to early-1828.
