Flat button?

My brother found this on a hunt we made together yesterday. It looks like a button which is missing it's shank. Could y'all give an approximate date? Thanks

Can't help with date, but I'd guess Colonial. And it's a very unusual one, too. Gorgeous! Tremendous detail, and I've never seen that pattern . . .
