Anybody know anything about flat buttons?
Is there a website to help ID them?

I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow, it's too late & I'm too tired right now.

Are you sure it's a flat button?

Almost looks like part of a 2 piece button with the front being gone.

Nice find no matter,

that is a nice flat button you got there. you must be hunting an old spot. i have only found one flat button but the marking on the back is worn off to a point were i cant distinguish what the maker of it was.

Jake is right, try to get a read on that maker. it looks pretty good, at least good enough to read and look up the company/maker and it should tell you when that company was in business making those buttons.

HH and nice find, lance

Hey, bman... here's a pic of the one I have...

"Standard Orange Gilt" is what mine says on the back... supposedly from the early 1800's... was dug at an equally old place, so it just might be.

Hey Beetle, I think that's the same one!
I can make out the word "Gilt" at the bottom. It's smooth on the front just like yours too.
I'm gonna go get it and see if the other letters I can see match up with yours.
