Folks, been hammering a home that was built in 1810, with an addition in 1840. I've been trying very hard to recover items from every family that has owned the home. It has had 3 family owners. The first one has, of course, been the most elusive. He fought in the War of 1812 and was discharged because of a tomahawk to the knee. He died in 1840 and is buried in the cemetery that is very close to my home.

I have gotten coins and relics from the previous two families and was dying to get something from the first family. This morning I went out and got this flat button, which probably dates in the 1790-1840 range. Needless to say, I was ecstatic!

Congrats on the button and hope there are more finds from the first family to come .

Congrats on that accomplishment. :icon_thumleft: What amazes me is that the list of owners includes only three families over 200 years!

Cool button! Tomahawk to the knee? Bet that left a mark. Too bad you couldn't find that!

Congrats on getting the find that pulls it all together for you.

Nice find. There should be more good stuff lying around. keep at it.

yeah, i was amazed at the families too. pretty rare these days. this saturday i get to detect the property across the street. the 2nd family sold the property I'm currently detecting and upgraded their house there, building an amazing house. Hoping that nets me some cool relics. The outhouse still stands in the back. Not sure how old that is. The current owners found a very old schoolhouse sign from the school around the corner in the barn. that's been there since mid 1800s. Only bad thing is they tore down the house. So, I'm sure that's going to cloud the area.

Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

Very cool story MM.....I just moved into an early 1800's joint and need to do more research.Congrat's on "flat" to make it complete

oh i thought said wounded knee,,,, you said 1812 nice finds

I think a tomahawk to the knee would limit his mobility around the yard, search around the front entrance way and the path to the privy, those are most likely the areas most traveled for him. good score on the button

Cool story - that's neat to be able to have something from every owner.
