The other day I found a nice little flat button with a mashed shank at an old school that was the site of a civil war encampment. The front is plain but the backmark is a mystery. It says SHORTHOUSE on the top and across the bottom I can see PE–-SON. The center part of the bottom word is blocked by the mashed shank. If anyone knows anything about this mark I would greatly appreciate any help you can give. So far my search has not produced any results. I hope one of you button experts can help.

Thanks for looking and keep swingin.

It is most likely a Shorthouse and Pearson backmark from around 1818, as I posted in your other thread. Maybe someone else can add more to it than what little I have been able to find.

Thanks again. I hope someone else has more info, but what you found was a big help. I never would have found it on my own. I’m not a great researcher.

Keep swingin.
