Found this in the yard of an 1800's house....possibly the top of a flag pole??

Hey, Mainedigger—

You've just dug a whiffletree tip! You can see one in the Morgan Carriage Works online catalog. (They call it a "wiffel tree end.") Check out the left photo, second row,:

Finally, compare it to the illustration below, from a late 1800's catalog, and to the photo showing a tip in use.
