I have come across a reference that is news to me and I wanted to see if this sounded right to anyone else:

"The second hurricane on October 22, however, did serious damage when five (5) Spanish convoy ships were blown off course and sank at the mouth of Mobile Bay. With the loss of the royal transports carrying the money to sustain his government, Ulloa was forced to grant economic concessions to the local residents."

Hey Michael,

I have indeed heard of this but not the specifics of the names. The way I heard it was that there was a payroll convoy that left Veracruz bound for Pensacola, Apalachee, and St. Marcus (St. Marks). I'm not sure how much was actually onboard but I do know that the Spanish had approximately 2000 individuals on the payroll in Pensacola alone at that time.
