After seeing Mom and the boys off to bed last night, I slipped down to a small, local beach that has been very kind to me this year....this night was no exception.
I hit the water bout the stroke of midnight. The night was calm and with overcast skies...very, very dark. Although I have a small lamp I wear around my neck, I seldom use it.Ive become accustomed to hunting blind..(nice to know if I ever loose my eyesight).
There were very few targets to be had this night..(think I dug about 10 items in 2 hours).
I was playing the guessing game as I slipped through the shallow water.First target.....sounds like a penny. Sure enough, I pluck the small copper from my scoop.
Second target (chasing for about ten minutes)...maybe a snap off of someones shorts.....Yup! Third target...HMMM....not quite high enough to be silver...not a penny...Im guessin either a quarter or a decent ring? I take a well placed scoop and swish her around a bit....bunch of small rocks in the bucket.Rather than turn on my lamp, I start plucking the rocks out of the scoop one at a time.As I get to the bottom, Im expecting to feel a quarter hiding in the corner, but instead feel the soft, rounded edge of a ring. I bounce it in my hand a little ...got a real nice feel.I tuck this one into my inner pocket and continue on my way. I hunted about another hour and found nothin of interest in the water, however, on my way out I hit the wet sand line and managed a couple more coins and a kids ring which turned out to be 925.
2AM...time to head for the truck...a nice night and a nice hunt.
Oh ....that fitting end thing.....After four years of abuse, I folded the handle on my "temporary" water scoop.Made from a plastic Kellyco hand scoop and part of an aluminum ladder rack...weighed in at only 2lbs.Dug through tons of sand, clay, and stones and retrieved many a nice targets.Farewell old friend
7.25g ....14k.....very nice!
9.25.....kiddie ring...Ill take it!
Best of luck to all......Joe
