Sorry no clue. I've fished for 30+ years now and don't recognize it either. What makes you think it has any thing to do with fishing, are there any markings on it?

this was beside a couple of old dip nets and some old cane poles. Also got a cricket box that a belt would go thru. I remember some type of minnow trap that you would pull as you were trolling but this is different i think. Don't think it would work for minnows. Would you hang it close to the ground with some kind of bait in it?

Thanks for all of your help

The end caps do not come off of the tube where a light would go.

I like that little bait box. I used to collect old fishing tackle but I got rid of most of it. Some of that stuff can fetch a pretty penny.

Memory's kind of sketchy on this one, but, if I remember correctly, you would put bait (for crickets) in the center perforated cylinder, the crikets would crawl on it and fall off into the funnel and slide down into the jar.

The fins are there to reduce surface area to the bait. This way, sever cricket would be shoving and pushing each other while attempting to get to the bait, assuring that some would fall into the jar.

I guess you had to be there! :headbang:

But basically, it's a trap, where you use bait to catch bait. :laughing9:

glass jar type minnow trap -- put food in holed area lower into shallow water -- a bit deeper that the jar trap rig is tall * the food attacts minnows --who come to feed on the bait -- when lifted upward the cone type opening forces the minnows into the jar below it -- normally a rope was attached to the handle --see the upside down V shape? the fins keep the minnows from darting left /right and getting away (since they would be facing toward the bait area while feeding -- darting left /right is the way they would try to dart to get away since - they can not swim directly backwards ) -when you lift the trap up --bait is in the jar.

Japanese beetle trap.
The bait goes in the screen area and the bettle falls in to never be heard from again.

The fins were there to interupt flight of the beetle causing him to fall through the cone into the container.

I agree. My grandaddy used to raise azaleas and he had a couple of these in the "glasshouse" He used to pay us a quarter to remove the beetles from the plants.
