Detector(s) used
CZ-20 When its Wet, Garret 1350 When its Not.
Primary Interest:
Beach & Shallow Water Hunting
Returned my cz-20 under lifetine warranty last fall, local dealer said he thought it was a coil problem. A month later after paying $25.00 service fee, unit was returned. In their words they replaced the housing, the panel, the potentiometers, the gasket, the pointer knobs the phone jack? and the pc board.(made it a cz-21) I put several targets under the coil & it seemed to be working properly.Took the batteries out and put in storage for winter (I live in Mich) Finally got an opportunity to go water hunting in early June put the detector on its stem and turned it on NOTHING! Changed batteries, nothing replaced battery pack with one from standby unit nothing. Put both battery packs in standby unit and they both work! Called Fisher, talked with Felix and explained that I had not used the unit since its return in the fall. Was given a return authorization # and returned it. After several weeks Felix called to tell me my detector was fixed and that I owed them another $25.00. I again stated that I had not used the unit since the last repair and didn't think I should have to pay the $25.00 fee again. His replay was what do you want me to do. I told him that I wanted my Detector before the whole darn summer was gone and that I would pay the $25.00 so they wouldn't hold my detector hostage. I have contacted fisher twice via their website concerning this matter and no one has even bothered to reply. OH and guess what this time the repair was the coil!

Terrible Customer Service! And even worse is the fact that they don't seem to care!

I know the post is about Fisher but it's like this almost everywhere today. There are a few exceptions but the general concensus is that people just don't give a crap! Once a company has your money they are done with you as far as they are concerned. It really bugs me when I do business with a store and if there are any warranty issues they make it sound like it's my fault. Or in your case pull out the fine print and show you what all they HAVE to charge you. No matter how valid your argument is they don't care. RCA burned me for the last time on a brand new TV that didn't last 6 months. If I wanted to use the warrany I had to send them a $70 service charge, in advance, and ship it to them at their new factory in Mexico. This didn't cover labor either, just parts. I basically paid $300 for a TV for 6 months. Everyone I tried to talk to with RCA Couldn't have cared less, their policy was their policy, period.

I'm only 41 but I remember going with my Dad when I was a kid to buy cars, lawn mowers, TV's etc... and if he ever had an issue they would take care of it on the spot. Now days some kid gives you number you can call. I'll stop gripeing now but it is really disgusting to have to deal with things like this. I feel for ya,

Charlie

This is why I would NEVER send my 1266 to them--I wouldn't want some sort of Bounty Hunter Hybrid shipped back to me!

"I wouldn't want some sort of Bounty Hunter Hybrid shipped back to me! "

and the truth comes out! if you have had bad service from FISHER i am shocked!!!!!! they have done things for me that they did not have to do and usually without my asking. i truly believe that most service complaints are a result of the anti bounty hunter bias that exists. yep, i guess a f75,t2,f5,omega etc: "bountyhunter hybrid" would be just horrible! :laughing7: sorry, but its getting really, really old!!!!

I have had excellent service from Fisher in the past before they came under the First Texas umbrella but have heard of many guys at this forum and other websites thinking they got ripped off by them lately. I have many Fisher's that still work and when they die I will bury them.

I have read multiple complaints about Fisher customer service on different forums. Contrary to what some believe, customer service issues are not just with Minelab.......

"Contrary to what some believe, customer service issues are not just with Minelab......."

if anyone believes minelab or fisher are the only ones with occasional problems then they are the ones that have a problem!!!!!!

Whites had it with the Whites Beach Hunter ID. Twice I had to pay to ship mine back for leaks in battery compartment while under warranty, both times Whites repair suggested the fault was mine for not closing the compartment properly, even though I was very careful when changing the battery. On the second trip for leaking while under warranty I tried to get Whites to pay for the shipment and they refused. After I bought an Excal and traded my BHID in on a new Sov GT, Whites finally came out and admitted there was a problem with the rubber gaskets used in the BHID.....

Not great service from fisher repairs

Sent fisher 1280x for head phone repair... got call back from felix (nice man) who proceeded to state a list of many many things the machince needed EXCEPT the original head phone wire repair. He stated that I would have to speak to the technition (daniel) on monday, as the techs are off on fridays... I asked how all this is wrong with the machine?? as i used it a week b-4 the wire to the head phone got damaged with ABSOLUTLY NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!... Felix state that he would have to have the tech call me..... this is pretty simple... it worked fine, head phone wire got damaged, now the entire machine needs repair... I dont know whats going on, but thats pure BULL!!! Plus its my favorite machine out of 3 machines

Also have a very close friend who sent his 1280x for repairs, extensive work done, and the machine hasnt worked right since... and fisher wont back it up... My reccomendation would be to think hard be fore sending a machine in for repairs... thanks

Rucksack,

have you heard from Daniel? If so, what did he say about your machine?

Interesting you took the trouble to dig up a 7 year old thread to add your post to!

I think the general consensus lately is that First Texas (Fisher, Teknetics, Bounty Hunter) service is some of the best in the business.

Let us know on Monday what transpired.

Isn't the headphone cord permanently attached? If so, they would have to open the detector up to replace it. Given that, they would likely (as any responsible service organization would do), look at the "innards" and see if anything else is amiss. Usual things like, corroded battery contacts, the strain releif on the headphone to control box connection, control switches, potentiometers - that sort of thing. Since it's a water detector, it's gasketed and the gaskets are normally replaced. Did they happen to mention any thing like that for example? The 1280 has been in production since 1986 - how old is your machine?

anyway, just trying to think of how it could be that a detector that works OK might need some problems corrected if sent to the factory for repair of an obvious fault like a damaged headphone cord.

My own experience with Fisher service has been excellent - Felix has always been patient listening to my issues and when a detector fault could not be duplicated, Daniel sent it back to tech with a more detailed explanation from me of the symptoms - that did the trick. 10 day turn arounf - the bill $55.

here's some other recent feedback on Treasurenet (lots on other forums too, but rules are rules).
