Fisher Impulse ddetector input needed

Re: Fisher Impulse detector input needed

I have never used one for nuggets and don't think it is that sensitive for the really small gold. I used mine at the saltwater beaches and it is older technology compared to todays PI's.

But it is very sensitive to very tiny gold. At a metal detector club meeting about 10 years ago, we all brought our metal detectors in to air test them against each other, see what they all do etc, it was the only detector ONLY, and these were all good water detectors, and some relic detectors, that would pick up a very thin gold chain. Yes there a few new PIs and VLFs that will do that, but of all the PIs at the time, it was the most sensitive.

Thanks Stevemc, I never tested mine on tiny nuggets, only on a small chain but didn't know if it was the small clasp it hit on or the links. I don't remember when I sold it.

Was good at the time (1994 ?) but the threshold was never very smooth and some of todays P.I.'s have the option of using a very low pulse delay, as low as 10uS, which really ups the sensitivity to small gold.

So will work but not the best by any means. I never understood why they didn't take the Impulse one step further with automatic retuning. Perhaps new "Fisher" will as pulse is a big gap in their line up.
