Hi all!! My first detector!!

I just got a fisher coinstrike yesterday and I went out and searched and searched....my back is killing me from bending down and standing up after digging every beep over +20 I found alot of shredded beer cans....some new pennies....a couple dimes from the early 1980's and some globs of melted lead I also found a metal plate with some holes in it about 1/2 inch thick....but no silver dimes or rings or stuff....I am new though and I have alot to learn....and after digging for almost 10 hours I still love it!!! I hope I purchased a good quality machine. I have read the owners manual several times and I keep having trouble getting the thing to overlook the junk and just sound off on the good stuff. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum
Never tried the coinstrike. But i can tell you that Fisher Brand is one of the top 4 or 5 brands out there. So you made a good choice. Not to worry about discriminating junk. Rereading the manual is great and it's a good idea. But it will take a few times out with it, before you'll see how to apply all of what the manuals telling you. You'll soon see how to disc. out the trash.
Enjoy your new detector and let us know how your doing and what you find. HH

thanks for the welcome....the dealer who sold me the detector told me about this forum....he is a great guy....hope to get to hunt with him...as he has over 20 yrs detecting....he uses a minelab...but told me that I should master the coinstrike before buying one of the really expensive ones....I thought that was really honest of him....anyway....I will post any cool stuff that I find here. again thanks for the nice welcome.

Hey, coinstrike. Welcome to the forum. Would have thought the dealer would have given U better instruction, but if not mistaken I think it's similar to the CZ models. What is your disc. set at?

I tried everything today....from 0-99 I finally got the thing set to FP for factory preset and did a little bit better....I spent more time digging junk than anything....(and I know it is because I have no idea what I am doing) the manual says that a signal of +32 is a quarter....but I dug up a piece of iron 5 inches wiide and 6inches long with several holes in it.....the book says that iron should read out at a negative number. oh and it was almost 10 inches down in damp ground. and what is with the lumps of melted lead? Who goes around melting lead anyway. I was hunting in a city park.

? ? ?He started you off on a pretty high end detector. I think thats a good thing, because some buy the entry models and very soon are looking to upgrade. The coinstrike will keep you busy for sometime. It has all the bells and whistles any body would need. You may not want to get rid of it. I'm thinking about getting the Fisher CZ 3D. maybe he'll give me a deal too.
? ?Tell him i said......Minelab? ?Whats that some kind of new laborador ?breed?

? Actually though i have a Minelab EXP II as well as others. ? ? ? ? HH

For one the melted lead may have been brought in from another site with a load of topsoil. Just a guess there. As for the iron, if it's large enough and has been in the ground awhile then there might be a halo around the object (meaning that metal particles have leached out around it and thus making it read higher on the scale. ?Lead has a high conductivity as is, which is why it's fairly easy to find bullets and sinkers. Go ahead and run the factory preset for now and getaccustomed to the machine and watch the meter on each target to see where it reads. In your place, i'd dig every target and as I got more familiar with the numbers, I'd try to guess what comes out of the ground before digging. Then dig to see if answer is correct, won't work everytime but as time goes by, will get more familiar and have an idea what to expect.
I've been running Fishers for over 10 yr and like them very much. You might also check out Fisher's website where they can answer more questions as well. http://www.fisherlab.com ? Best of luck and HH. ?stoney56

My dealers name is Mike Drum here in Lubbock Texas....he walked me through how to set up the detector and wanted to stay and go through the video with me, but I have a dvd player and not a vhs...anyway....did I mention that he drove 85 miles to my front door to deliver it? What great customer service!! We went out in my yard and put some coins in the ground and he showed me how to use the detector to find them and went over what the numbers meant and some basic settings....and then he turned me loose!! gave me his home phone in case I ran into any problems....A+ all the way.....so....if your lookin to buy a fisher....dont hesitate to look him up....HUB CITY DETECTORS IN LUBBOCK TEXAS!!!

I spent a hear and a half in Lubbock at Reese AFB in the mid 60's. I learned to love those old wind blown cotton fields. I dated a poor little cotton farmer's daughter for a while. Little did I know he owned a barn six times bigger than his house with four $100,000.00 tractors in it! The Caprock, Go Red Raiders, yeah and all that stuff! I still have service friends who settled there. Nothing to do with detecting but a lot of fond memories. Congrats on your new machine, Fisher has a good reputation.

i have a dfx and a coinstrike, the coinstrike has a learning curve just like the dfx. the coinstrike is a deep machine, all i can say is to setup a test garden and learn the tones. as like my dfx, ill never give up my coinstrike, i have reached out and touch targets at some unbeleavable depth. h.h.
