They are both nice detectors, but it is like comparing a Hugo to a Caddy. The 1280 is the best selling for Kellyco so from their stand point it brings in the most sales dollars.

The Excal is tons better for many reasons. I still have two 1280's I let family use when they hunt with me as they are simple to use and beep. At zero discrimination a 1280 will beep on a bobby pin just like a gold ring, while a Excal won't see the bobby pin so you spend more time sweeping for the real treasure and don't waste time digging iron.
