Hey all,

First of all I want to thank everyone for their advice. I now feel way more confident about finding sales. So this past weekend I went out to some sales. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I ended up doing quite well! The first sale I went to was a bust. I checked the whole street, nothing. I wasn't too bummed out, but it still wasn't a great start to the morning. The next yard sale I went to was fairly uneventful, I got a sigg water bottle and a tape deck to ipod converter in a free bin, but other than that nothing. In looking for a third sale, I saw a poorly lettered sign pointing me to another sale. This sale was not marked on craigslist, but from my own experience and what jerseyben and others said the unadvertised sales can be the best. I followed the signs, which led me to the back of a warehouse. There, behind the warehouse was a huge bay door. it was open, and the room inside was full, and I mean full of stuff! The perfect kind of stuff too, the cardboard boxes that are clearly 40 years old and are completely full of old but useful things. I met the guy in charge, and it turns out he buys estates, does garage clean outs, etc. He's a furniture guy, so he hardly pays attention to the small stuff. Just dumps the boxes on the floor and left people to root through them. It was amazing, you guys would have been in heaven. Anyways, here's what I got. (if you want to see close up photos of anything just let me know)

Pictured above, not necessarily in order:

Pair of Koss Pro/4AA Studio Headphones

Arrow T-50 Electric Staple Gun

4 Pyrex pie pans of various ages

a 3 piece collapsable cane with a brass dog's head handle

Vera bradley coin purse

LeSportSac purse, NWT

set of 6 matching Fire King Mugs

Set of 4 Anchor hocking fire king "snack plates" (the pattern is called mosaic, apparently it is fairly rare)

Awesome vintage suction cup roof light

Pair of 70's or 60's masonic cufflinks

a couple vintage sports snapbacks

1993 ERTL Bucket truck, NIB with certificate of authenticity.

1939 "Better Little Book" ft. Donald Duck

30+ State/National park pins

Not pictured are some vintage beer glasses (PBR and National Premium), a le creuset pot for my girlfriend (worth about $80, but she claimed it), some misc jewelery for her as well, a huge sewing kit from the 60's for her, a belt buckle for myself, a 1958 map of baltimore in excellent condition, some vintage trucker hats for myself, some misc tools for myself (new chisel, 10" pipe wrench, a couple other wrenches), a knife set, and some other stuff that I'm probably forgetting.

Best part, it was all $30! And he's having another sale in 2 weeks. I gave him my number, he sends out text updates of when his sales are happening.

Then, when I was heading home, stopped at a yardsale near my house and picked up this mountain bike for $150. I looked it up, it is a 2009 model that retailed for a whopping $1950!! Wow!! I cant expect to get that much from it now, it has certainly depreciated, but I'm hoping to take it back to Vermont in the fall and sell it for $900-$1000 to one of the zillion mountain bikers who live around me.

Thanks for looking, hope you all had good weekends as well!

Great score on that mountain bike. The four Mosaic snack plates will get your $30 back. Lots of stuff for your money, you did good. :icon_thumright:

does that truck have a company decal on the doors.....if it does it could be worth some good money...i know the ones that have marble king industries from the same maker easily sell for 100$ in the box....

Yep, it was made in limited quantities for BGE, Baltimore Gas & Electric. It has their logo on the doors and a paint job exactly matching the trucks in 1993.

Yea, It took me a while to find the pattern. The set complete with cups sells for around $100, I'm thinking about selling the plates as replacements for $25 each, there were no other single plates like them on ebay.

There have been some that have recently sold. fire king mosaic snack | eBay $25 each may be a little on the high side.

Hmm, thats true. What I was saying was no one was selling single replacement plates, which could possibly sell for $25 since buying something individually is always more expensive than buying a lot. I could lot them up though, I'll be making my money back regardless.

That's some great buys, congratulations. That bike is a major score.

I have no idea what they sell for now, but back when, those Koss Pro4AA headphones were the cats meow. I had a pair and loved them. I have never had a pair that compared to them. They are a little heavy compared to todays though, but unbelievable sound quality. I've seen a number of professional sound mixers still using them today.

I looked them up, apparently they were the headphones to buy in the 60's and 70's but they were discontinued in the 80's. However, the demand for them was so high that they now make them again, exactly like the old pairs.PRO4AA Full Size Headphones - full size headphones - headphones - products - koss headphones They're $100 new, but most of the pairs on ebay sell for the $30-$50 range. I tested them out on a friend's tape deck, they sound awesome!

Congrats, I am proud!

Can you post a pic of the Baltimore map? I love stuff like that.

Sure, it's actually at my work, I hung it up as a poster, but I'll take a picture on monday. It's nothing too special, just an old esso gas stations travel map. I'm a graphic designer, so its mostly just design inspiration for me. It really is a beautiful piece.
