I hit a local beach today on the low tide. The water was a little rough and there was a breeze blowing.
The water Temps are still in the fifties. I wore a
Farmer John wet suit, (3mm). Tomorrow I plan to go back with a Full Wetsuit, (5mm). It's still too cold for a Farmer John w/ a long sleeve pullover.
I have searched this beach numerous times before and I am familiar with some of the areas where I have consistently find coin deposits. One spot that has given up numerous quarters was just beyond my reach today. My friends and I call a deposit of same denomination/ similar weight, a Vortex. That is where you will find multiple quarters and nickels or dimes in one spot. It also happens with just pennies but I wasn't hoping for a penny vortex. A gold jewelry vortex, would have been nice.
The first hour consisted of 2 SBA Dollar coins, a quarter, and a few pennies. Then I walked into a really loud signal. First scoop, a quarter and a dime. Then it was nickel, quarter, nickel, quarter, with a dime here and there. Before I was satisfisfied that there were no more coins in that one little area, I had scooped out
16 coins. That one vortex made the whole hunt.
