WHAT KIND OF TREASURE ARE WE HUNTING TODAY ?
Detector(s) used
MINELAB E TRAC, EXCAL2,QUATTRO,WHITE 6000 DI PRO SL,EAGLE SPECTRUM,SILVER UMAX ,BANDIDO UMAX VARIOUS VINTAGE
why would a guy who has an etrac buy this? well besides being obsessed

w detectors? saw a friends unit . seemed hot enuf on small gold.

i get tired of the etrac lousy pinpointing when park hunting parks that

are newer. ended up using the tesoro there a lot. but no target id. im trying to specialize in small gold.

i i figure lotsa over looked as most hunters turn up the discrim to avoid trash.

probly need a nothch machine but didnt want to spend much rite now.

figure i could visual id and look for targets that locked in on foil/sm ring.

what i didnt know is this machine pretty much shows the same id for everything

that isnt a Zlincoln or hotter. floating between foil/nickel/pulltab. hardly

any targets ever lock on and dont jump around. even nickels it cant seem to

be sure about. i was only knocking out iron. i only got a few foil/sm ring

signals that locked on. mostly small slaw.

so it dont really quite do what i bought it for.

however, i will prob end up using it a lot.

it has a nice mellow tone. i always thought the tesoro beep as harsh.

no vol control. heres the best part. it discrim good w out the tesoros

constant annoying chatter. while i would bet my money the umax is more sensative. it is sooo nice to get some longer periods of quiet if there arent diggable signals.!

also at the tot lots the umax rules. but for plain cleanup type detecting in not so old parks i like it.

see, i really did need another detector. an another .

Man i don' understand a thing you said i'm confused is the White better or worse than the umax??

Sort of pitched a curve ball to me also.. So i am confused to --- Don't know what he ment or said.. all mumbo jumbo to me.

ok here is a try to explain better....

i live in the stix and only have 3 or 4 parks in the 3 dollar roundtrip gas range.

3 of 4 are pretty trashladen. i dont seem to have any local competition,

so not really worried someone else is gonna bag whatever good stuff is there

b4 i can.

a few older and silvers have been found at each one.

since i feel im gonna dig up pretty much everything metal in these parks

eventually.the trick is to make my hunting as enjoyable as possible in the meantime.

i have been over these repeatedly with the etrac...just digging the deep silver sounds.

there werent a lot.im sure a few more silver will be found but the etrac do a good job.

so next obvious was to try for larger gold which i found 2.

and as with the old/ silver coins more lg gold may be found but i think few.

during these hunts i would always pick off any quarter signals too.

to the point where now it is rare to find a quarter at all there.

so im left with trash, nickels dimes and pennies.and small gold.

how to enjoy digging lots of trash? not w etrac. poor pinpointing.

was using silver umax on lowest setting of disc and digging everything.incl tabs.

which is fine except the constant chattering when umax is rejecting iron targets

gets tedious.

continuing my progression of eliminating the most desireable/valued targets first

would be to try to find the small gold next.

and thats what i bought the whites for looking to visual id under the foil/sm ring icon.

as stated in earlier post this didnt work as the id doesnt lock on good.

but i was at least happy that the unit will let me dig up a lot of the junk and low

value coins while preserving my sanity w/o all that constant chattering.

of course during this process i will return to the etrac every so often and

try again for some silver / deep coin signals. after i have spent at least several

hunts cleaning up trash. this keeps getting easier as the ground is cleaned.

and i got a nice 2 wheat 1 merc pocket spill out of an area i had cleaned out many tabs from.

i didnt say either the tesoro or the whites is better.

as usual they are 2 differnt machines of which some aspects may excel for one use and not another.

whites smooth ,quiet, target id. may miss some signals when over lg concentrations of iron

tesoro more sensative to very small targets. but annoying chatter all the time.

at this point its the whites/etrac combo.

i will use silver umax for competion hunting and tot lots.

and IF i get to the point where very few whites signals it can find.

THEN back to the tesoro in all metal and see what mixed in w the iron.

i am determined to find everything these parks have. and of course there are

always a few new drops.

to me i would rather save on gas and hunt said areas til dead.

than drive far trying for a super lucratve site which usually has not ended up

being that much better than where im going anyway.

I think I kind of understand what you're saying. Maybe.

I recently got a White's Coinmaster Pro. I'm finding foil at 4 inches. And I mean tiny foil: wadded up gum wrapper foil.

But I don't know if this is what you are talking about. The title says "white coinmaster unit". Sorry to be picky, but white is a color, White's is a metal detector brand name.

If you're talking about the same make and model, try using the "Smart Notch" mode to decrease the number of targets. I personally don't like discriminator mode much, but have never used a detector that was so senstive before, either. Tested it on a $5 gold, and it started detecting at about 7-8 inches in an air test.

I have the etrac and it pinpoints like a laser, I don't understand why you cannot pinpoint with it. I learned to pinpoint my target WITHOUT using the pinpoint button. wiggle your coil over the target, small wiggle, just an inch or so back and forth and at same time pull coil backwards until tone stops. The target will be directly at the front center of the coil. Everytime. It takes a bit to learn but it is only way I pinpoint now and it is way faster and super accurate. when you put in pinpoint mode it pics up any metal, so you maybe pinpointing something other than the target you want. with my method that does not happen because you can HEAR the intended target as you wiggle over it and slowly pull back.

I have the Silver Umax that I use almost exclusively on kiddie parks. Works really good. I use my Safari that I am still learning on wide open areas with the stock 11' coil. The little Umax loves silver and by jockying the disrimination a bit it will knock silver coins out of the park. Ditto the Safari on more open areas. Monty
