This particular 3 piece carbon fiber Plugger shaft allows me to pack the entire Excal plus hydration pack, finds pouch, dive boots, gloves and ALL other accessories except my travel scoop within a 20x12x12 rolling duffel bag that’s small enough for airplane carry on! A great advantage I must say.

The only issue that slows the whole process down of packing, unpacking, setting up, tearing down and repacking is the unwinding and winding of the search coil cord.

Another minor issue is that the stock headphones are not detachable---an issue that will evaporate when my warranty expires and I replace those headphones with Gray Ghost Amphibians with detachable end cap.

Although the trip was only from Orlando to St Petersberg this first time, I wanted to test run the whole packing/unpacking/set up process. Now having down that, I’m confident about taking my Excal on planes or any trip by any means for that matter.

Having sung the praises of this set up, my final word on traveling with the Excal is for Minelab engineers:

If you ever develop an Excal or CTX 3030 in an “SDC 2300” type design that is just as compact and foldable as the SDC, and just as waterproof as the current Excal put me at the top of your buyers list! I’m in.

Colonel,
I have the same CF Plugger Shaft and it was interesting to read about traveling with it. All good points you made.
Thanks for the post! HH!
