First timer......Early 1800's Pistol Barrel
It turned out to be a great afternoon here in western NY when out popped this early 1800's pistol barrel .......its been a long time trying to find one of these. While detecting with friends in the past we happen to pull 2 out of the ground that were old but a little different. This find happen to be a first for me so I was happy to find one , it was located where I believe the out house was. The barrel was a couple of feet from the hole , maybe it was hidden there for a reason. I wonder!!! There was a small depression that looked to be one and it was located down wind not far from the celler hole it self.
With the snow gone from the upper 50's and 60's we had in our area it tool only a few day for that to happen. It melted away almost everything here in our area. but this season has brought plenty of snow and at times it was heavy and came down feet at a time......this happen to do us metaldetectorists a big favor......it just matted down everthing and i mean almost everything, even the most thick vegetation. This in turn helps us get into those over grown areas that in most cases can never get to......Thats how i found the gun barrel....and the large copper not far away.
This years first day out turned out to be a good one, i am so looking forward to getting out more this year then the past couple.......Enjoy !!!!!!
Keep on Digging!! John
