First time with MD, Now what?

Hello Ellen, welcome to the forum! I would download the manual for the 250 and read it again, and again. Then I would plant a coin garden in my yard to start practiceing with it when you receive it.

We have a lot of Ace 250 user's on the forum and it seems like you purchased the best machine in the market for the price!

Be sure to post pics of your finds!

Practice at the local schools/parks for a while to get used to it!

Good luck on your adventures with your new toy!

Schools and parks are always good, but check your local ordinances for rules concerning detecting there. Ask friends and neighbors for permission to hunt their yards, and you may be amazed what will come up from your own yard! Welcome to the Hobby(addiction) I look forward to seeing your finds! Good hunting! omnicognic ?8)

Yep parks & schools... you can also check out old churchyards and fairgrounds, etc.

Anywhere people went, they are sure to have left a trail of change... ;D

Try to find out where people in your area went years ago (a little research online & the library)
and then you should be able to find some of the older stuff...

My advise is this find a nice old site and start hunting. Spend less time trying to sort out the beeps and more time digging holes!

Where can you download the manual for the ACE 250?
Please post a link!

Ellen,

The 250 is a good machine but the manual is pretty weak. It will tell you very basic info and nothing more. You will learn more by reading some of the threads here about the Ace 250, and also by asking questions after you get it. Practice pinpointing especially. Scan a "hit" different ways and learn how the display acted. Then when you dig it up, you will learn how the machine is communicating different things to you. It has a lot of brains but its brains will only take you so far and then the rest is up to you. Practice digging in your own yard until you can leave no mark (in the grass). There was a recent thread on this here also. Also, I bought a cheap pinpointer and have found it very helpful, but that's just me, I like gadgets. Mr. Garrett has a book on coin hunting (and many other books) and it is full of ideas. Basically, where people have been, they have lost things. It is a question of what where when and why.

Welcome Ellen and grats on your new toy.Great sites listed above,I love to dig old home sites.Lots of old and new clad and other coins plus the chance finds from the kids that played in the yards from long ago.Never know what an old yard will turn up.Look forward to your finds,HH

Welcome,I agree that your own yard is the best place to start(practice). That's where I started and still go every now and then, when i'm bored.Good luck and H.H.-diggummup
