Hello All!
I tried with my grandfather about $100 in dimes, which yielded no finds, but was really fun! I was doing some french drop coin tricks with a half dollar today with some young kids and I thought for the first time of a huge, old bank which was walk distance away. I thought it would be a cool to get some half's for the two kids, who are staying with us because their baby brother who is two weeks old, is not in the best condition, and had heart surgery last Thursday. Before you knew it, I was letting my Mom know where I was going, and off I went with $14 in quarters in change, and one half.
I come through the huge bank doors and walk in and only one couple was there, along with one teller. The couple looked at me strange, as I guess its not common to see a 15-year-old in a bank. Once they were through, I walked up to the teller board and said "I know this might sound strange, I but I was wondering if I could buy some half dollars". I then laid down a half to show her what they looked like, and she gave me the $14 dollars worth as I lined up all the quarters. She then said with a grin if this was a practical joke. I told her no, but it sure would seem like it.
Before I left I smiled and said that you don't get people asking for half's often huh? She replied saying one person comes regular to pick them up, and her grandmother collects them. I said thanks for the help, and continued through the door. I looked into my $4 dollars of halfs that were not rolled, and saw that there were 2 bi-centennials! I was pretty exited, and quickly rushed home to open the whole roll. The whole crowd (My three sisters, the two other kids, and I) opened the roll, and although there was no silver, 3 more bi-centennials popped out, which was surprising to me. I let them each pick their favorite, and they were as happy as could be!
I'm thinking of going back at some point, but not sure, maybe they would except $150 of pennies I have
Thanks for reading and HH,
