Detector(s) used
MINELAB SE-Excalibur 1000-Minelab SD2200V2
I've been detecting Florida east coast, Cocoa Beach south Sebastion area this past year.

I have been using my Minelab Excalibur every time, This is a great beach detector and im happy i purchased it, as a matter of fact i own two in case one breaks down.

I purchased my Minelab SD2200 Gold detector and have not used it yet, Im going detecting next week and wanting to know what can i expect after using the excalibur this past year.

I know not to get the SD2200 wet, And this unit does discrimiate, so it will work at the beach.

How much deeper will the SD2200 detect vs the Excalibur

And any help would be appreciated as to settings.

And also am i wasting my time wanting to use this detector at the beach, Or will the SD2200 detect deeper than my Excalibur.

Thank's to all that reply, And HAPPY NEW YEAR to every one on this forum. :) ::)

It has been a long time since I used the 2200. It is a true gold nugget detector and I don't think it would do well on a saltwater beach especially in the wet sand. For more info on using it, go to http://losttreasure.com/fieldtests/ArchiveView.cfm?ID=lt19990312

Beach hunting doesn't have to be with the Excal. If not going in the water the Sov GT will work great it being a land detector. The main thing you need for beach hunting is a large light weight coil like the WOT or the Clean Sweep for the Tesoro Tiger Shark. There are many detectors that handle the wet saltwater sand if they have a saltwater mode, like the Fisher CZ6a.

If you're not getting it quiet, just get an coiltek "salt" coil.. used them in Western Australia on the saltlakes. I bet it'll run perfectly quiet on a beach too and you'll gain 3-4 times more depth penetration as any VLF / Multi frequency detector. Anyway you'll have to dig all targets.

Update i want to thank you guy's I used this a week ago in Florida and i purchased a Minelab commander coil, I like the way this machine was acting on the wet and dry sand, It surprised me it was very stable and i will be using it more often,

I used it for threee hours on a isolated beach south of Sebastion Inlet, I found threee nail's, But i know this machine will find the coins down deep.I will be trying again in Febuary and im praying a storm takes away some sand before my next trip.

Again thank's again for the suggestions that were provided
