Was Bored today so i went down to the bank and picked up all the halves thet had
$200 worth .Came home and went thru them ,had some fun ,broke the boredom .
1/2 of them were bicentenials and only one pre 71 .it was a 68 ..so i guess out of all that i found 1 40%er .im not really sure what else to look for .I didnt see any mint marks on any but then again im not sure what to look for any tips ?

Can't go wrong finding a keeper on your first try! Even if it is only one, and only a 40%.

Mint marks are quite small and are located on the front under the tip of Ken's neck. Although with the 64 Ken's the mintmark is on the back under the left claw area of the eagle... the mintmark is also small and not raised much on the 64's.

As far as what to look for aside from silver... there are a few errors that are fairly common and can be found if you go through enough halves... but I will let someone else mention those, or you can just dig through old post. The question of what to look for pops up AT LEAST once every week or two... so there are dozens of posts just like yours with plenty of useful answers.

The only keepers worth the time to look for are silver in my opinion... and commems/87's/GOOD proofs if you happen to find them while rim searching (silver ones or ones with unc rims).

Other than that, it takes too much time looking at each date... at least when you start getting into searching thousands and thousands of dollars worth of halves a week.

Good luck in your future searches!

Welcome to the jungle. Depending upon your budget, you may decide to just silver hunt. If you want to search dates and fill books, you will be busy. I searched 8000 halves today, I wish I had found what you did. The mint marks are on the front under JFKs collar. Good luck and welcome, Jim
