Hey, guys. Buddy of mine has been mining for decades and has a place in NC where we have gone a few times. I’m running a Keene 175x8 (pretty sure that’s what it is…12” x 8’ high banker with Honda gx200 and Keene pump ). This past weekend, we swapped out Keene Mat/riffle system and put Gold Hog mats in.

Has anyone had any issues with the Keene grizzly bars letting larger rocks through? Every other bar isn’t welded at end and I know the reasoning, but I’d like to stop the bars from letting larger rocks through as they can sometimes catch/build up on river hog mats with the taller riffles. Looking for more consistent material going through. Im running the pump maybe 1/4-1/3 throttle and using valve at box to tweak flow. Basically, running just fast enough to keep buildups to minimum around the taller River hog riffles. As best as I can tell, 1/2” and smaller rocks moving about a foot/second in 2nd half of sluice box (last 4’). I’d like to keep that speed or slow it down a hair.

Our material is not classified and can have potato size rocks that we usually get before dumping and hand wash them, but some do pop out the dirt as we dump the shovel into box. I mention this because bars would need to be fairly stout (so far, Keene’s have held up well). The gold we are getting is, usually, 50-100 mesh, but last trip was a different area and some bigger chunks (small pickers and smaller) being found.

Welcome it looks like the gold rush is on in the photo. I noticed the same piles behind all the operators is it a pay and mine ?

Yea…buddy runs it and digs material to bring to members. He also has his own set up and does really well, but he’s cheating a bit. Lol.

Came across another Keene user and he had Keene weld a bar or 2 across his grizzly to keep bars stationary. Wishing I would have brought our set up back with us to get this done. May see if buddy can grab next time he’s up there

Make a little u-style frame the width of the box that each of the bars can sit in that will allow the bars to be moved up & down if needed, then just attach it on the outside. You could probably make one up quick for a test from some old galvanized plumbers tape but aluminum would be better...

Talked to Pat Keene and bought this from him. Will be testing it out next weekend.
