first time panning in my local NC area

I just started panning and found a nice spot in NC. Panned for about an hour and a half. All I found so far is fine gold. No pickers or flakes but had 3 pans with over 10 color in them. I figured if I go a little deeper I may find better gold. Heres a picture of my 1 1/2 hour haul.

Nice, keep at it! I used to live in Western NC and I'd love to go back and take a crack at a few streams I use to go fishing in. Hope you find much more.

Here is my haul today for 2 hours. Still not finding anything besides flour gold. Im panning the top 6 inches. Should i go deeper? I dug down but hit hard clay bout a foot down.

Yes go deeper l've found gold first 6" to 8" in glay and under it to i live around char n.c.

yeah that's what I was figuring. I started digging but the clay was hard as a rock. So I just went about 6 inches.

Headed back out tomorrow and gonna try to get in 5 hours of panning and sluicing. Taking the wife with me so hopefully we get some good gold. Ive decided to let her run material through the sluice and im gonna dig down below the clay and see what it looks like down there being ive only been running the top 6" of material.

Thanks. yeah its a great feeling just finding gold. Just need to find some a little closer to home!
