My wife and I went to the site of a log cabin church from the early 1800’s. This was our first trip metal detecting. We found a lot of aluminum beer cans and tabs. This was showing up as low gold, about 35 on my meter. It said it was 6” deep and sure enough it was 6” down. Had a lot of fun today spending time with my sweetheart. She found something we don’t have a clue about. It’s the last picture. Any ideas??
Thanks for looking!

That last piece resembles the shape of a conducting core from a small electrical transformer. I can’t guarantee that, just a wild guess. Congratulations on the first trip. Nice axe head!

Nice job!

I wire brushed the ax head and it clearly has an “S” stamped in it. Don’t know what that means, any ideas??

Thank you! It was found near the site of an old log cabin church. The log cabin was torn down many years ago. It might have been used to hew the logs for it, I don’t know but it’s interesting to imagine the hands that handled it. I do know the log cabin church was built in the mid 1830’s. We’ve yet to find any coins in the area but I know some has to be there.
