Metal Detecting
Hi Guys/Gals,

I went on my first trip out with the metal detector today.

I went to a place where some old freinds had there house at one time. This house and about 3 other have all been knocked down about 3 years ago. Well first of all I could not make out which was there house, as all the foundations seem to have moved around ;D Secondly, the are was full of very high grass and weeds, which made it very difficult, and thirdly it seems like my area is full of metal, because the detector sounds all the time, the same in my garden.

Well I then moved onto another place where I had heard that they had knocked down all the houses, to find that people are still in the houses..... But good news, I could see a ruin in the distance, so I parked the car, and walked to these ruins which seem to be a part of the gold mine... I looked around and came across a building with a roof on. Being inquisitive ::) I had a look inside the window, not realising that a big wasp nest was about 1 foot above my head, well I got my only treasure of 7 stings :'(

End of treasure hunting for today..... Sorry no photos yet >:(

God bless
Peter

Ouch!!!, (7) stings = not good... :o
I got stung last year, and I'm not sure if the bees that guard the gold are more potent then the rest, but it sure didn't feel like I remember from a kid...lol Home sites might not be the place to learn a new detector. If they're anything like the yards around here, they're full of trash, very noisy on the detector... You might try finding a site with less trash until you learn the machine...
Glad you were finally able to get out...
Better luck next time, & Happy hunting~

I am so glad you were finally able to hunt...sorry about the bee's....but as you will see, its all a learning experience.....so how did you like the machine?,....it takes a while to learn it and get familiar with everything....Best of luck to you in your hunting adventures....

PS...I know the person who sent you the detector wants to remain anonymous....But I would like to send them a big thanks also...They really made a generous gift for a fellow hunter!

P,

good that you got out. The wasp nest :o bad.

Like others said, junk areas are not the best to
learn.

Have you planted a garden getting to know your
machine? That's much better than trying to
figure it out in a trash area.

have a good un..........

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies ;D The reason I went to that place was because it was a friends house, and I knew the place well (until I got there). When it is flat on the ground it looks much different ::)
The problem I am having with this machine, is when I sweep I get lots of signals, and if I sweep the same place again, they are not there. I at first thought it might me mineral in the ground, because when I took it too work and tried it there, it was quiet. So I am still not sure what is happening. But it makes it impossible to detect >:(

Yes Gypsyheart, I owe that person a lot. I really have grown to love and respect the people on this forum, in every way. I am trully blessed indeed ;)

But I will carry on reading and learning from everyone here, and in two weeks time I am meeting with another person who does metal detecting, and they are going to also show me some ropes and places :)

God bless you all
Peter
