Took my new AT pro for it's maiden voyage today, down to the beach. Got just over $15 in coins, 2 earings, a badge and a 1953 threepence. 1953 doesn't sound old but in Australia anything that pre decimal currency is getting old, 1966 was the decimal change.

Tried it in the salt and waves and worked perfectly.

I can't stress enough how important it is to ground balance these things as soon as you hear a few false signals and farts, it's so important to get accurate readings.

Deepest coin was just on 12 inches deep so I'm pretty impressed so far.:hello2:

Sweet finds mate! Sounds like you have a gold mine beach if you found that much clad, there's bound to be gold lurking in there somewhere.

I've been inquiring about the AT Pro myself, I've been losing sleep over that machine!!

Sounds very productive for a first outing. It will not be long before you have paid for the machine.

Great first trip out! Never thought of my AT farting, made me giggle a little.

dont loose sleep, its a good machine for the money but not gods gift to metal detecting. they all have quirks, it will be your learning curve that will pay off.

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Dirtydig, what would be your recommendation for gods gift?

Thomo59 Great day digging. I have had my AT Pro for about two months now and you would have a hard time prying it out of my hands. I'm 80 years young and I can only swing the coil for about three hours and it is "time out". I have not been skunked one time yet, This morning I picked up 41 coins and had to quit cause the Ol back said go home. I have had high dollar detectors and none of them would compare to the AT Pro. Keep digging. Lynne

Its a great machine, people don't appreciate them until they use them.

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Reply to Lynne, Lynne have you tried using the 5x8 coil? The ATP was to heavy for me at first, I changed to the smaller coil and love it. There is very little difference in depth, it cuts out a lot of chatter and the balance is great. I can hunt three times as long.

Wow Lynne, at 80 you're doing well 3 hour stints. I did 2 1/2 for that stuff and my arm and back starts to feel it at 50. I did shorten the shaft which made the world of difference. Now I search 6 inches from my toes, not 18 inches which is very wearing.

BeepBeep, over here in oz, the AT Pro is $975, not the cheapest out there and I researched alot before buying, particularly for wet salty sand and it's proved to be perfect. Again I have to push home the point, ground balance, ground balance, ground balance, keep adjusting everytime it farts. I was running wet to dry and back again, worked out quickly i needed 12 in the water and 91 in the dry, quick manual adjustment all perfect.

Ive been eyeballing the Pro for a long time, just waiting for the perfect moment when the purchase won't send me to the dog house, lol

Thommo, we can pick up the Pro in the states for $500 - 600, it must get quite the mark up after international shipping!

The Garrett YouTube channel has a string of demonstration videos on the Pro - some of it is blah - but they have one segment to show how important it is to properly ground balance so you get clean signals, and in some cases you don't totally miss a good target because of improper ground balance or over discrim... really interesting!
