hi all, well i went out today for the first time to a local county park (all wilderness no baseball fields or anyhting like that) with my brand new BH Pioneer 202. it was more of a nice hike than anything else. there is a nice spot just outside the park that was a school that was torn down in the late 50's and that is what i was trying to get to. well the good news is i found 3 ways to get to it, all of which involve crossing a stream, swamp or some thick growth, but i think i found the best way in for next weekend. did find some old glass bottles lying around way out in the middle of nowhere and 3 old cars (1950's ) in the middle of the park rusted out to nothing (absolutely no idea how they could have gotten there, the area is hilly and heavily wooded).
it gave me some places to detect, but the ground is still solid, another couple of weeks it should thaw. so sorry but i have no finds for today, but i am loving this so far even w/ no finds.

Hey, old bottles can be quite collectable. Don't turn your nose up at old glass. Did you keep them???

Maybe it wasn't wooded when those cars were left there. ???

Good luck for next weekend!

;)

Keep your chin up,sounds like a good spot to detect.Do you have a layout of the school and its grounds when it was in existence? If not ,do a little research this week if you have time. This could give you a better idea of where to search when you do go back. You know ,the old playground and such.Nothing around those old cars to suggest a reason for them being there?Good luck next weekend, keep us posted.

:) Nice having you in the forum , plus good luck on your next adventure ....Seeker

Sounds like an interesting site...good work getting out there! Good luck hunting it in the future.

TS,

welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you had a small adventure, that's what
it is all about.

Good location you got there, keep us posted.

have a good un.......

sounds like a spot with potential! those cars got there one of two ways. either they were driven there or were towed, either of which would require a road of some sort.they didnt build roads to nowhere! maybe there was once some sort of building in the area?something to think about.

Nice site to detect when it thaws out, sometimes it's just good to get out and explore a potential site! HH, Mike

thanks for all the well wishes, i have researched the school rather well and have some old layouts of the buildings and playgrounds etc. found out that it is not officially on the park property though, so this could present legal issues w/ detecting (no need for a permit in the county park but the grounds outside are probably state land) and i would be out in the open once i get to the old school grounds.
while doing research on the park i found out it is primarily used by bicyclists (this would explain why i only saw about 5 people in 2 hours on a Saturday) and it was frigid Saturday morning.
can't wait to get back out and search the rest of the park to get ideas of where to detect. i will let you all know of my first real find shortly i hope. HH

Standard, it sounds like you're finding some really cool places to hunt when the thaw comes. Take notes and keep a jounal, so you don't forget the details you've noticed along the way. Come on Spring time.

DIG IN YOUR FRIGGIN YARD! you will be amazed, the bounty you hunt will be never ending. the 50's cars sounds really cool, take a pic for us? as to the wooded area thing, try to imagine that same place about 60 years ago, yeah some of those trees were just not there and only the massive trees now where there before. oh and those cars probably are claimable any car left unattended for a period of months to years can simply be quick claimed aka titled in your name. have a good one,db
