It's been over 6 months since I've put my coil over some ground and today was too nice of a day to keep that streak going. I've been out the past couple of weeks trying to line up some sites I've been researching and decided to hit one today that I received permission for. Research shows that there was an early 1700's house in the woods across from where I got permission so I figured some oldness could have spilled over on to my site. The corn had recently been cut and once I got out of my car I noticed how trashy the fields looked. There were plastic bags and beer cans sitting on top of the ground all over....I immediately knew I be digging a lot of signals today and that was the case. After digging aluminum can slaw for over an hour I finally pulled out two lead balls, an early steelyard weight and a few yards away out came the VA Halfpenny. After that it was over another hour of digging trash with a few buttons mixed in. If I had more patience I probably could have found a little more but I don't have patience so I left. It might be a fall-back site if I'm in the area but it's safe to assume I can cross it off my list. Maybe in the winter when the underbrush dies back and ticks go to sleep or whatever they do, I might check out the old house site in the woods.

Love the old copper coins, congratulations!

Great post and finds Joey! Two IDable coppers is a pretty good day... mine all seem to be toasted lately.

Congrats on the old coppers. That buckle piece is an old one also.

Very nice old coppers- if that doesn't give you the fever to get back out there more often, I'd be surprised. Congrats!!

Good to see you out buddy. Looks like a nice early spot. Hope you get back soon

While the finds were apparently thin compared to the trash, never the less they were awesome finds! I don't think I would give up on the site so easily, especially after finding a 1773 Virginia Half Penny. With finding such an early coin in the field, there is the possibility of much earlier and even rarer finds lurking between some beer cans, flip tabs and Iron. Once the owner plows and disks/discs the field, maybe you will be more enthused to hunt the field again as it will be a lot easier to hunt when not having to work around the corn stalk stubs!

Thanks Abe. I hope to get out tomorrow since the wife and kid are up in Pennsylvania. Gotta make the most of my free time!

I'm sure I'll get back there at some point as I'm sure your right that there is more there. My sights are on the early homesite in the woods as the early buckle and steelyard weight came from close to there. The house site is surrounded by hunting trails though so I'll at least have to wait until January. Thanks for looking and good luck out there.

Not too shabby for the first time out Joey. Looks like the site spans at least 3 different centuries. Now that you've cleaned out a lot of the junk maybe the nice stuff will start to reveal itself. And the woods will probably give up some oldies as well. Nice hunt and post!

Those coppers help to ease the pain of digging all the trash

Thanks Bill. The woods are definitely where the potential is. The farm fields look promising but I don't think even you would last long in that trash!

Nice to see you finally got out Joey. I like the coppers, but the buckle takes the cake..
Good luck if you get out tomorrow.

Sweet digs Mr Fresh:headbang:
Cant beat that kind of Variety..
You are absolutely right the woods is where it's at:thumbsup:You can dig year round if there are leaves on the ground no problem..
