First time out in 2007 Des Plaines Police pay me a visit.

Went out for an hour for the first time in 2007 and one of Des Plaines's Finest paid me a visit. It wasn't to socialize either. Seems as though a guy didn't like me M D in the park so he called the police. Naturally the cop thought that the guy was nuts for doing it. So we chit chatted for about 10 min. he went on his way and I went back to M D.

I did find a 1918 Wheatie for my first wheatie of the year, in the same hole there was 3 more wheaties 42 44 45.
NO SILVER

I got my first silver of the year today, so at least I can say I was ahead of you in the silver count for one day!! 1-0, haha, probably won't last for long though! Good luck this year!

You should have looked around to see who was watching you talk with the officer (the reporting person) and then went and asked them permission to hunt thier yard

Yea, I asked the Reading Sheriff's office here about metal detecting in the parks and public areas, they said as long as nothing is posted, its legal. Its been in the 70's here in Pennsylvania, why cant my md hurry up and get here!

Just picture this- The grump peeking through his window with delight as he sees the squad car roll up, just waiting to see the infraction or possible confiscation of the detector, when lo and behold, ten minutes later the cop strolls off with a friendly wave and you continue on your way.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall watching the tattletale's expression slowly turn from assured self-righteousness to indignant frustration. Heheh...

What was the conversation about? You covering holes? Have you found anything cool with that thingy?

Never had any cops stop me but a few weeks ago I had one angry farmer call me everything but a white boy. I DID have permission to hunt the land I was on. But he thought I was making the whole thing up. Give it some time and I will go back. I do have permission!!!!!!!!

Nice finds and glad you didn't get in trouble.

But as for police been there done that. My partner and I were hunting
a one room school house last year. A State Trooper drove by and I waved at him and he waved back. A few minutes later, I see the State Trooper coming back and he parks right behind my car and turned on his strobe lights. He gets out of his car and walks over to my partner and I and with a big grin on his face, asks what we have found. He just wanted to know what we had found and said he had always wanted to detect. LOL we tried to get him to hunt in the field with us, but he said he couldn't just then cause he was on duty.

While the State Trooper was talking to us, the farmer, who had given us permission to hunt the site, saw the trooper's car and his lights blinking and came over. He walked up and started to tell the trooper that he had given us permission to hunt his property. The officer explained and we all had a good laugh.

Everyone is curious about our hobby, even the police. Our club volunteers to help our Sheriffs department find items that are thrown away by criminals and need to be found for prosecution. We have found bullets and guns.

I'm reasonably sure silverbob is, indeed, an alien. I have my reasons for this theory.

Ok, it would have sucked if you were arrested, but then you could have been a criminal !!!! that would be cool !!

Seriously, silver has seemed really scarce so far this year, I wonder if it's the weather. I have noticed, that it seems like ground that is actually frozen affects the way my tesoro reads targets. I mean, it's no crazier than moonphases affecting a searchcoil.
