This is only my second time MD'ing first time was on my own property lol So this morning I went hunting around some youth baseball fields and found alot of pull tabs, a little red car, and 48 cents in clad. Hunted for about and hour and a half and had a blast. Still got alot of ground to cover but it was so hot and humid. Sorry for no pics, gotta get a better camera lol I don't have a pinpointer, but wanted to ask you guys which one you would recommend to a beginner? Thanks

Harbor Freight makes a 20 dollar pointer....Can't go wrong with that....Use that for a while, then step up to a Detector Pro Pistol probe, or the Garrett Pro Pointer. :icon_thumright:

Make sure when you dig holes in the public spots, you can't tell they were ever dug ok?

Good luck!

WELCOME TO THE ORCHESTRATED INSANITY THAT MOST OF US ARE KNOWN FOR!!!!

The only pinpointer recommendation that I can give is for the Garrett Propointer. Once you get it and use it, you will understand what all the fuss is about. It will make your detecting easier on those pesky targets that are small, it will speed up your recovery time. It will likely help you not to damage a deep coin.

Good luck and stay in touch!

When I dig I make nice little plugs, looks like i've never been there at all.

I concur. I never leave home without mine. :icon_profileright:

I have a Fisher F-point and a Harbor Freight pinpointer. the Harbor Freight pointer is $16.99 and it works much better than the F-point. The F-point works fine if you are within about 1/2 inch but the Harbor Freight one will work at a much greater distance but the switch acts up a bit. I'm thinking about changing it out for a toggle switch. Everybody seems to love the Garrett Pro Pointer but I'm not ready to spend $127 on a pinpointer yet. So basically I also think the Harbor Freight Pinpointer is good for a start.
One more thing the speaker on the Harbor Freight pointer is ridiculously loud. I put a piece of aluminum tape over it so I don't get stared at by everyone in a ten mile radius every time I use it.

I used the Harbor Freight pin pointer when I first started. Had a problem with the wiring that someone here on this forum told me exactly how to fix. Used it for a few more months until I found enough clad to buy a propointer from Garretts. I still have my harbor freight unit but only as a back-up. The pro-pointer is worth every dime that I spent for it. Welcome aboard! HHHH

I'm happy with my Vibra-Probe pinpointer.
After over a year of heavy use it stopped working :dontknow: ...
I called the company and they fixed my pinpointer at no cost :hello2:

Something to be said for good customer service these days

I USE THE PROPOINTER MYSELF BUT FOR COINSHOOTING AND HUNTING OPEN AREAS ID RECCOMMEND THE SUNRAY SINCE IT CAN BE USED IN DISCRIMINATION MODE WHILE ALL OTHERS ARE ALL METAL. FOR RELICS AND THE BUSH USE THE PROPOINTER OR VIBRAPROBE FOR OPEN AREAS AND COINSHOOTING THE SUNRAY IS A GREAT TOOL
