Finally got around to buying my first metal detector after about 30 years of threathing to do so. (Bounty Hunter 2200). Went out to a fairly remote beach this morning on the east coast of Cape Breton Island. I found $1.61 in loose change but remained undiscouraged. About three hours later I scanned an eroded bank and found a small coin I thought was a token of some sort. Almost shouted when I saw the date 1734. Originally I thought the coin was British but exploring Treasurenet I found out it's actually Spanish. Found out everything about the coin. Needless to say I'm hooked for what's left of my life. I'll post a pic or two tomorrow. The coin turned out to be 1 real,1734,with the Hapsburg arms of Spain. Identical to the photo's I found on Treasurenet other than the date. Can't wait for the sun to come tomorrow. Looking forward to reading the many posts and exploring the finds of others. All the Best.

Welcome aboard, and Great Find!!!

Thanks Folks. Our Island has hundreds of wrecks but mostly in deeper water. Every Fall after hurricane season people teand to comb the beaches. I stick to the less travelled areas and have found clay pipe bowels, stems and broken pieces of pottery but this was my first coin. I've marked the spot of my find and will hit it again in the Fall after doing some research. All the best.
