First Time Coin Roll Hunting

I didn't have that kind of luck, you must have a good source.
Have fun!

Any silver these days is a miracle. In 1964-66, I used to get $10 of pennies and $8 in nickels that came from the parking meters of our small town every week. We never pulled out indians, but we kept everything from 1940 and earlier, as well as a few of the select 50's. Plus one or two steels every week. The nickels had buffalos and wartimes all the time, and we kept the 38s and 39s. Built up a pretty good collection that way. Right now is the 60's of 35 years from now.

:icon_thumright: Great Finds!! :hello2: I used to go to the bank yrs. ago and get my whole paycheck in half dollars. Boy did I get the clads and a good bit of silver halves also. Use to get boxes of nickels also, they were fun going thru too!

I have not had much luck with pennies, dimes or quarters but the nickels I have been doing very well. I have found several "V", buffalo, 38 and 39 nickels. And a lot of war nickels and other 40's. Also find a few mint errors as well. Don't pass those up. I have been selling them on eBay for some pretty good prices. I am not an expert on coin rolling and I only get 10 rolls at a time but it is a good way to pass the time and get some good coins while it is so hot outside to metal detect.

Congrats on finding some good stuff! Last winter when I couldn't go detecting, I thought I would try some coin roll hunting. I was in the U.S. (I live very close to the border), so I thought I would get some half dollars and try my luck. I got 200 halves, brought them home to search them, and they were all crap. I took them to the bank here to trade them in, but they wouldn't accept U.S. half dollars...they will take any OTHER form of American coins/paper money. I decided to just get some half dollar rolling tubes...impossible to find in Canada! Half dollars are basically nonexistent here. I'm going to have to drive back down to the States, find some rolling tubes, sit in my truck and roll 200 hundred of them, then go cash them in. :BangHead:

I'm seriously thinking of burying them somewhere as a cache. I have found so much great stuff...why not create a treasure for someone else to find?

You shouldnt have to roll them. There are more than enough banks that have coin counting machines.

I was going to say the same thing. I don't think the banks even have wrappers anymore. But I have rolled more than my fair share of pennies in years past. On the other hand, I am not sure that US banks want the halves, either. I ordered two $500 boxes, and had to return them a few dozen at a time, to several banks, over month or so.

I've obtained a bunch of rolls for my store and went thru them. I haven't found 1 silver dime. Plenty of 40's and 50's wheats, but no silver. Other than the dollar coin bonanza I recently had, I think I'm out of luck on the silver.
