Bounty Hunter (for now)
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Not sure what this is..is a non magnetic metal, with some pattern on it, my husband says that is due to the leaves and dirt..of course I do not agree ;D , I'm sorry for the bad photos am new to resizing and all..One is of the front, one is a "small" section of the back(really blurry) and then the last is of the patterns (maybe not in that order..hehe). Husband also thinks its Nickle Babbitt, any way to test this with out having to have the major chemicals needed? Maybe some thing I might have in the home metal might react to...
One more thing, had a white powder on the back of it that cleaned off with water and baking soda, with no strange reaction or damage to the item.

Thanks in advance for any input on this!

Looks like a hunk of lead...

I agree, looks like lead....I found a few chunks of it in my yard (which use to be farmland). My house is located in the vicinity of where the old barn use to be. Found LOTS of fishing weights too and homemade ones. I kept them all too!

But we also found two rings in our yard....one junk (front yard), the other gold and silver (10k) (backyard)...keep looking....more to discover!!

Happy Hunting,
Annmarie

Can you mark it easily with a knife, ie- is it soft? Is it heavy for it's size? It looks like lead to me also, maybe old lead since you mentioned a white "powder" that cleaned off. Lead metal is unstable when it is in contact with air and water. It corrodes and forms hydrocerrussite, the white coating that is commonly seen on old bullets. You also mentioned that it is non-magnetic.

gah! yes it marks easy, my dear husband tested that fact. and its light not heavy and not one magnetic point on it.
Me and girls were digging in a spot and hit cement, a rather large piece that the detector pinged on (this is an older detector I borrowed to have fun with my girls) of course we could not get below the cement chunk. Our home is located in an old logging town and has been here since 1954 if I remember right. And oh yes I'm going back out to see what else is there found some old pottery Pisces, well not to old has blue color on it. Then we are heading to the river and trying it out there.

Thank you

The 'white powder' makes me think of decomposing lead as seen on many of the older lead bullets found in the ground. Where does this piece sound off at with your detector? (low, med, high tone)
