This is what I found today after a heavy excavator, 18 archeologists and finally a John Deere 450J bulldozer dug, screened and graded this site for almost 3 months! :laughing7: I’ve been detecting this site for the past 3 years prior to the land being sold for residential development last fall. After the Arkies started to excavate this summer, I actually stopped by and spoke to the supervisor to see what they’ve been finding at the site.

Well last week I noticed the Arkies were gone and a bulldozer had started grading the site making it ready to hopefully be planted again for one last season. Right away I found a 1901 Vickie LC, which was followed by a King George V silver dime. I then found a 1918 LC, a crotal bell and at the time what I thought was going to be a silver thimble… wrong, aluminum. :BangHead:

What I at first thought was a bent piece of scrap brass turned out to have writing on it. It reads, ’MARINE BAND, USA PATENT AUG. 24, 1887. At one end of the tag it says, “MADE IN GERMANY”. Unfortunately, I could find nothing similar in the patent records on either the date of the name ‘Marine Band’.

Thanks very much for looking!
Dave

Thanks for your interest adit. :hello:
This was an early pioneer settlement site in my area.
To-date I've found close to 60 pre-1920 coins and early Canadian Token.

Thanks for your question Anton.
This was one of the original family settlement sites in our area.
As the supervising archeologist told me, "it was of enough interest that it needed to be fully documented".
I'll post a couple of pics of the Arkies dig results at the end of this thread.

Hope you're getting out there before the freeze-up,
Dave

Thank you for the info gold boy.
I've found tons of harmonica reeds over the years, but never one of the side covers.
Of course, maybe I have but just didn't know it. :laughing7:

My biggest fear is that the construction crews will show up after the corn is harvested to break ground for the houses.
