Didn't go so well. I brought about 1000 halves and another $80 or so in mixed change. Machine locked up like 10 times and bags reported "full" 3 times. I felt like I was being a PITA. Tellers were pleasant. The one teller that was fixing the machine was onto me as a CRH'er.

I am using TD as my dump bank. Opened the convenience checking since its only $100 min balance.

:hello: I use TD Bank in my area as my dump bank also. The TD Banks around here have the $1 & $.50 bags set to fill at $100 in coins. That could be why the machine had the bags being full & having to be changed so often. Because there are so many TD Banks in this area, I split my dumps among the different banks so as to not tie up the machine for a long time. You might want to consider doing that if you are able.

I will split large dumps. The teller said try to find an older TD, that the older branches have older coin counters that work better and can handle more coins.

This doesn't make sense to me... but good luck dumping :)

:dontknow: I agree with BuffaloBoy. The branches around here are getting new machines & the tellers tell me that the new machines are working better (less jams compared to the old machines). I prefer the older machines for other reasons. As far them handling more coins, that's not true as the machines are all set to have a bag be full for each type of coin at a certain amount. They may have told you that in order for you to go to another branch. I feel splitting up your deposit is a better way to go.

I went for a vacation to Florida last month. While I was there I actually ended up getting two random boxes of halves. Since I didn't know the area, my dumping options were limited so I had to use TD. The thing that stuck out the most about the TD counters in Florida to me is that the machine is serviced from a small room behind the coin machine. The tellers have to go into this small room to change the bags. The metal hoppers also don't seem to be removable and the reject chutes are those awful metal chutes. I'm really hoping this isn't the style of coin machine that all TD's are going to eventually get because it removes all of the chances of freebies while dumping.

The branch that had that type of machine I went to was brand new. The teller did mention it was one of the newer machines. It had the small room behind the machine just as you describe and the metal chute coin reject. The hopper however does lift out, just tug on it straight up. I had coins get stuck in there so I had to pull it up and shake on it to get them to go down.

I just used a coin machine yesterday for the first time.. I filled it twice and they had to empty it twice, and it jammed once... 45 minutes to dump $1000 of halves...

:3coins: It's the newer branches of TD that are being built with the being in the samll room. The older branches have the machine out in the open which open in the front but they are slowly replacing them with the sharply sloped metal reject tubes as oposed to the older machines with the gently sloped PCV tube where the coins get stuck in.

That's such a shame. I have much better dumping options than TD to get rid of the bulk of my coins, but I still like to visit a handful of the old style coin counters at TD every week to reap the goodies. Today I got an Ike, ~$3 in canadian coins and a handful of other foreign coins from one of them. I have a few gallon-sized ziplock bags full of foreign coins that I have gotten off of those magnets. I am going to save them for a while longer and then trade them in for U.S. dollars. There is a store near me that will exchange foreign coins for a service charge which is fine by me since I got all the coins for free.
