First Successful Day.

Below are two pics of what we found yesterday. We searched in one park but the soil was hard as a rock and nothing but pull tabs. While we were there two little boys came over to see what we were doing. They left, then returned about 5 minutes later with the little screw driver. Giving it to my husband saying "Here I found some metal for you" It was so cute. Tried to let him keep it but he wouldn't take it.
Next we went to another park and searched for about 10 minutes and found our very first coin. A 1995 penny. I got excited. My husband exclaimed "We're on our way now. 30000 more trips and we'll have that baby paid off" pointing to the new garrett 250 Ace I bought. Then we found a snap from an old coat and the big pocket knife which isn't a swiss brand.
This brought up the subject of how did a pocket knife end up 4 inches below the surface with rocks above and rocks below it.
So I know it's not much but very proud of my first successful day. Hope to have many more.

PS) How do you clean coins and anyone have any suggestions for cleaning out that knife?

That's not too shabby at all for a first hunt! Keep it up and the finds will keep getting better. Main thing is not to get discouraged, it's like learning anything else. You keep it up and keep us posted.

Thanks I will. Waiting to go out again today but hubby is taking a nap. Considers dropping a book to wake him up. I can't stand it. I wanna go out again! hahahah.

Good finds. But don't be so shy. Just yell, "Hey, get up. We're going detecting right now!"

:D Great post! And those are some nice finds too! ;)

GO WAKE HIM UP, ALREADY! :D

Look forward to your next posts and welcome to Tnet!

How about one good ring and it is paid for..or one rare coin and it is paid for.... ;)

For cleaning those clads, an inexpensive rock tumbler does the trick.
Don't clean any coins that you think might be numismatically (??) valuable.
What I do for old recoverable jack knives, is give them a good coating
of Naval Jelly with a brush. Do it over a small bucket, then just drop it in
for an hour or two. Then if you have a small wire brush, start working the
rust off. Pretty soon the blades will free up. A little more naval jelly, and
pretty soon all the rust is gone. Wash it off good, and hit er with some WD-40.
Wipe off the excess, and your done. :)
Now that you've broken the dirt fishing "ice", the goodies will start coming.
Fun Fun!!

Nice finds there. Maybe it won't be too long till cooler weather and more rain comes and the ground will be easier to dig. That Ace 250 will be a good one for you. I found a 1942 merc at around 7" the other day with my Ace 250. It was a good signal too. Happy hunting
