Had about an hour to kill before picking up my daughter from preschool so I decided to hit a local beach/park/nature path area. Since getting the double score I’ve been going to all the saltwater places my old bounty Hunter couldn’t. Hit the sand and surf for about 45 minutes or so, lots of trash and a couple toasted pennies, and then nature called, so I headed back to the parking area to the port a potty. Did my business and came bac lk out and thought “While I’m here, might as well hit the gravel around the parking spots” (3 spots). Literally 2’ directly out from my truck door I get a super loud and solid 60, which I know is silver range. Dig 2” down and out pops this absolutely beautiful lady! She’s a bit scuffed and scratched, washed it gently with a little bit of mild hand soap just to get the dirt off since I knew she wasn’t going to be “perfect”, but holy smokes am I proud of her. Definitely think she was someone’s “pocket piece” as it was right next to where a cars door would be and this lot had only been built maybe 6 or 7 years ago, but she’s all mine now!

1878 S mint Morgan
First silver found with the Nokta, first silver coin ever found (detecting), and oldest coin ever found.

What a great find...a recent drop perhaps? Nice recovery!

Quite possible. That ground is about 80% gravel and super hard packed, so I would think with it being so shallow it could't have been there very long at all.

And to have it so close to where you parked...great story!

I have found modern coins deep down and ancient ones practically at surface level especially so in hard packed and gravel rich turf so I wouldnt infer too much over that.
With the condition of that one I'd be more inclined to believe it was dropped back inbthe 19th century rather than recently.
Congratulations on your first silver and hope many more will follow.

You hit quite the Tri-fecta Sand-duner. That is a remarkable find. I'm shocked at this coin's condition...she couldn't be prettier. You will no doubt remember that day for a long, long time. Congratulations!

AMAZING FINDS !!! Congratulations
