Lol, I don't think it counts as a ring anymore! Gotta love finding some silver though. Nice job. Maybe the next one will be a little more round. :D

Agreed lol but I was excited to find silver on my sixth time out detecting...still new to metal detecting but I am starting to learn what the machine is telling me....

BuckEye, welcome to tnet and congrats on the ring. I'm pretty new detecting also and no rings yet for me. What machine do you use?

Sure it counts! It'll even straighten out if you're careful. I use a tapered punch or drift and a little heat to get them straight again. Only use a low temp torch like a propane or butane unit and keep the flame off any stones. If the ring has a seam where it's been sized, it might pop loose if you get it too hot so don't get carried away with the heat. Use a soft faced hammer or wood to shape the band or you might dent it. Some jewelry stores do that sort of repair also but on a silver band it might not make sense economically. For rings with stones in the band or if you don't feel comfortable using a torch, you can put the ring in boiling water to heat it. It doesn't work quite as well but better than no heat at all. Other metals like stainless, tungsten carbide, and titanium might need a lot of heat (more than you can get with a propane torch). I don't know about those, I haven't found a bent version yet!

Thanks for the info, but ill probably leave it like it is since it already has a split thru it....
