Living near the 6300' level in Idaho, there is still a lot of snow on the ground and the ground is frozen. This weekend I went to my step sons new home in Twin Falls, ID. It's an old ranch house. It's a rental and has very little property. The good news was there was no snow and the ground was not frozen. I took my Ace 250 out and hit quite a bit of junk and clad. The first good coin to pop out was a 1945 penny in VF condition. I then hit a small strip of dirt along the driveway. I about got my earphones knocked off with a solid $1.00 signal. Just 2" down I pulled out a 1900 "O" Morgan silver dollar. It's also in VF 30 condition. I then went to the front lawn and found a worn but still readable 1918 "S" Merc dime and then another Merc, 1942 "S" in VF 30+ condition. I wish I had more time. I ordered a 4.5" sniper coil that came today. I can't wait to go back with the small coil and cherry pick through the junk. All in all I was pretty darn happy. Not bad for 2.5 hours of hunting. Even if it's cold, get out there, those coins are still in the ground. Any time I find a silver dollar, I get a chill running down my leg that Obama only wishes he could give me !

Thanks guys. It's great when good finds are in the ground. It's up to us to find them. I'm pretty sure there will be more finds next time with the sniper coil.

how old is the ranch house 1920's any old fence posts around to hunt by, old foundations :sign13:

It's 1930's. I've checked fence posts, but most are newer. The house was on a large piece of property and fenced off to just a small area as a rental. Cow pasture on two sides and potato field on the other side. There is one small out building that I went over with a fine toothed comb, inside and around the edges. No finds there. I'll be going back to visit my step son in about a month. Now that I have the sniper coill, it will really help get around the trash. I should have more time and am going to dig every good tone. My step son is checking on a large abandon farm house just down the road. Lots of lawn and property and at least 5 outbuildings. Hopefully he can get me permission to hunt it. It may be owned by the nice little old lady who he rents from. I sure hope so. I hear she owns a lot of land in the area. I took my new sniper to a local park yesterday. I didn't find anything of great worth, but came home with a pile of coins. I was just detecting around the base of trees where there was little or no snow. That sniper is a coin killer! Come on spring.
