A friend and I have been researching and hunting an early California area for a few years, and have managed to pull some nice finds out of it in the past. We went down there for the new year, and after hunting an adobe site that was written off as hunted out, I managed to pull out a find that's been on my bucket list for a while, a bust half! These are more rare then gold coins in California. Also found a trigger guard from a 1700's Spanish pistol, a black powder muzzle loader, and a decorative buckle (shoe buckle?) that looks like the ones I see posted found in colonial cellar holes back east (not the best photo, but it has a nice decoration and was originally gold gilt).

Here's some photos of my finds.

Happy hunting,
Brian

That half will be tough to top in CA, Nice finds!!

Spectacular coin! I would love to find one of them and am very jealous!!!

Wow, that's a really old coin for Northern California. :treasurechest::thumbsup:

Awesome Finds!!!

The buckle is not colonial era. It is a pants adjuster buckle dating from the 1850s, approximately. Many similar buckles were stamped "SOLIDE" or "PARIS" with a date in the 1850s. GREAT find on the Bust Half. I like the powder flask spout too.

Cheers,

Buck

Buck thanks for taking a look. I wonder about the buckle as I've found ones that were marked as you noted, but they were post industrial revolution (stamped metal), whereas this one appears to be earlier, pre industrial revolution (cast, not machine made), with ornate designs. Definitely not colonial era, but seems to be earlier then 1850's ?

Thanks,
Brian

Man that's awesome, the history behind that coin is incredible, the trigger guard and buckle are pretty cool as well, great site you are on!

Wow that's a great coin for anywhere.... not just out west. Great finds man

That's a great busty beauty. Those bust coins are a special surprise from the newer silvers we expect to pull.

Very nice finds. The half is just awesome. You just don't see them very often. Congrats!

nice finds. I used to hunt gold camps in CA and I know how difficult early US silver is to find. I only found 1 x 1830 capped bust dime the years I hunted in CA. congrats on a nice day of digging.

Nice finds. Congrats on that fantastic coin. Thanks for sharing.

Wow. I can only dream about. Finding a capped bust half. Congrats.

Now I get it! At first I thought you were complaining about the bad kind of bust. :laughing7: Nice group of finds!

She is a beauty !! Congrats
Glen
