went out to the old ghost town and my buddy found an 1888 morgan possible "O" and some silver spoons. I have been waiting for my first silver and it came...a 2lb chunk of pure silver.

quite the odd shape no? wonder how it got that way?

Why do you think that is silver? At first glance I would say that is a "crows foot" from a telegraph line, and made from lead. Just my two cents.

with the whites it registers the exact same as the morgan dollar next to it. We tested lead next to it and it is totally different. I thought it was lead at first. Its not soft at all.

it registers:BangHead:

I guess the only way to know for sure it to get it tested! Gonna go monday. It sure looks like crows foot. Lets keep our hopes up!!!

I hope! Its heavy, but is nothing like my chunk of lead, I keep doubting, but my friends fancy whites has a graph that showed the exact same as the morgan in metal content.

I have my fingers crossed for you, and echo the treasure hound has her ears and eyes crossed! Lol

I would agree to it being a crows foot battery part and probably made of zinc not lead? HH

Would zinc come up the same as silver?? Interesting. Silver is the best conductor known, and this thing its as heavy as lead, but lead shows up in the gold range, and I know what lead is, this isnt lead. this registered the same as the morgan dollar to the "T" with a whites metal analysis. Only way to tell is test it.

Take the broken piece and put some heat on it like with a propane torch. Lead melts really easy at 621 degrees and silver at 1763 degrees almost triple. Good luck!

Your metal detector is NOT giving you metal analysis! It is just energy response based on conductivity and SIZE. A flattened beer can will register as a half to dollar too, doesn't make it silver.
