As the title reads, I snacked up a bunch of goodies today! Picked up my Dad and off we went. The ground was mostly frozen everywhere about 3" down, but there were some good spots that weren't frozen. Hunted for 7 hours today with breaks here and there to warm my fingers and get a snack and a drink. I would say most of that time was spent standing on the shovel and rocking back and fourth! When you get a good signal though, it's worth it!
Around noon is seemed to warm up a little, but that didn't last long and it quickly got cold and windy again. I can't wait until it warms up enough to wear a t-shirt!
My first two good finds were the wheaties, a 1920-P and 1916-P. They were pretty easy signals.. get your coil over it and dig.
My third find was the 1899 indian head penny, and it was pretty iffy and only 6" or so... coming in at around 12-33/35 at times.
Fourth find was the 1928-P Merc! First silver of the year detecting This signal was a typical dime signal, 12-45 but VERY iffy. It was barely registering and was only 6" down. I'm fairly certain the frozen ground had something to do with it. I have a dime in my back yard that's heavily effected by the ground being frozen, it kills the depth.
Fifth find was my second indian, and this one was real iffy as well. I was a little more certain that it was going to be an indian head penny though... after digging the first one. At 7" I pulled the 1906 IH. It had read 12-33.
By this time my Dad had seen me dig enough indians to want an indian head penny more than anything. He may have found one after that... you'll have to read his story.
After the indian I got another signal that I thought for sure would be yet another indian (12-33), but it was even cooler! It was the United Motor Coach Co. token. Here's good picture of a brand new one (dates late 30's to early 40's):

Also show below is a really nice 1970-S penny. I rarely find anything with an S mint on it, so I think those are cool too.
Towards the end of the day I thought I finally found a quarter and pouched it without thinking much more. When I cleaned it up I knew it was larger, now that I had my gloves off, and it turned out to be the 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar! My first one ever
You can see the crazy plugs I was digging in some of these pictures... my dad brought a rubber mallot and was hammering in his Lesche! LOL. All in all it was well worth the effort
